A new phytosanitary inspection site is being developed in the Coquimbo Region of Chile, funded by both public and private sectors. The site will facilitate the export of fruits like table grapes, citrus, avocados, blueberries, cherries, and pomegranates to the US market for the 2024-2025 season, without the requirement for Methyl Bromide fumigation. This development is a key part of the Systems Approach protocol, aiming to enhance the competitiveness and sustainability of Chilean fruit exports. The project is seen as a significant step towards improving the economic conditions of regional farmers, particularly in drought-stricken areas, by allowing them to bypass fumigation and meet the US market's higher quality standards.
