The Region of Crete is on high alert for the Spodoptera frugiperda, a quarantine insect that causes significant damage to crops and is considered a priority harmful organism by the EU. Producers and traders of certain crops, including pepper, eggplant, maize, and some flowers, are required to register in the Phytosanitary Register of Crete Regional Unit to obtain a phytosanitary passport for the movement of these products. The Unified Agricultural Association of Ierapetra is collaborating with the Directorate of Agriculture to expedite this process.
