Russia: Reserves of delicacy crayfish were calculated in the Azov estuaries of Kuban

As reported by the press service of the institute's branch, a special expedition was organized, the members of which were engaged in hydrological and astacological studies to assess the state of the Kuban crayfish populations. It turned out that the catches they made were dominated by crayfish of the so-called replenishment group - up to 9 centimeters, as well as the first commercial group - about 11 centimeters in size. According to scientists, the main reserves of these delicacy arthropods are in the Kulikovo-Ordynskaya (most of them are located in the Temryuk district) and Akhtarsko-Grivenskaya (Primorsko-Akhtarsky district) groups of estuaries. "A general decrease in crayfish stocks in the Azov estuaries is noted. The main reasons are the increased salinity of some water bodies and illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing (IUU fishing)," VNIRO clarified.
