The Indonesian government is relaxing import restrictions on meat to address high prices in the market, allowing private sectors to import meat, notably resulting in a significant increase in beef imports in March 2022. Imported beef mainly came from India, Australia, and the US, with the total import value for March being US$ 73.93 million. The Ministry of Agriculture has noted a decrease in the demand for beef imports in 2022 compared to the previous year, attributed to stock reserve builds. The national average beef price has seen fluctuations, peaking at IDR 140,000/kg in March 2022.
