Russia's agricultural regulator has imposed a ban on sunflower and corn seed imports from companies in Chile, France, Hungary, and Turkey due to the discovery of pests in imported seeds. The ban aligns with Russia's strategy to reduce reliance on seed imports and promote the use of domestically produced seeds, with a goal to reach 75 percent of total demand. The decision comes after the introduction of import quotas for sunflower and corn seeds in 2023, which were partially unimplemented due to Russian farmers' shift towards using domestic seeds.
