More than 90% of Russian herring shipments go to China Russia maintains its leading position in the global herring market, remaining one of the top suppliers. This was reported by TASS, with reference to data from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), by the president of the All-Russian Association of Fish Industry Enterprises (VARPE), German Zverev. "Russian herring leads in purchases by China and the Republic of Korea. Moreover, supplies are growing both in monetary and physical terms," said Zverev. More than 90% of Russian herring shipments go to China. According to an analysis of customs statistics of major importing countries conducted by VARPE, in the first half of 2025, Russian enterprises exported 113.4 thousand tons of frozen herring worth $86.85 million.
