Russia is on track to achieve self-sufficiency in apple production, with an expected 79.3% in 2024 and over 85% in 2025, according to Dmitry Leonov, deputy chairman of the Rusprodsoyuz association. The country's apple market is estimated to reach around 2 million tons in the current agricultural year, with per capita consumption at 13.8 kg, leading to a self-sufficiency rate of 79.3%. Imported apples, mainly from Moldova, Serbia, Turkey, Azerbaijan, South Africa, China, and Belarus, are expected to decrease in the medium term due to increased domestic production. Wholesale prices for apples experienced a decrease from late June to September 2024 because of the influx of a new crop, but retail prices have been on a downward trend since mid-August of the same year, reaching 137.1 rubles / kg as of November 5, 2024.
