In Demirci, a high-altitude district of Manisa, a farmer succeeded in growing saffron from onion bulbs. Saffron, whose flower heads have been used as a spice and food coloring since ancient times, was grown for the first time in Demirci. In Demirci, where many endemic plants are cultivated in its meadows due to its geographical structure, Şerif Artuç planted saffron bulbs, which he procured, in his field on the Simav highway. Starting to bloom in November, Şerif Artuç began harvesting the saffron flowers and obtained nearly 150 grams from his field in the first year.
