Morocco has emerged as a significant customer for Spanish lamb, surpassing Saudi Arabia, especially during Ramadan. This trend, which began late last year, is attributed to Moroccan aid for purchasing Spanish lamb. Other major markets include Libya and Jordan. The shipping volume is substantial, with each ship carrying up to 25,000 animals, primarily lambs. While the demand is typically for heavy lambs, the average weight has been reduced to 35 kilos due to Moroccan influence. The average farm-gate price is around 4.5 euros/kilo, reaching historically high levels.
