Freshwater seaweed from Samcheok City in Gangwon Province has been confirmed to show excellent effects in improving menopausal health. This simple local food ingredient has opened up the possibility of being utilized as a material in the functional health care industry. The Samcheok Fisheries Resources Center held a final report meeting on November 24 last year with Professor Jo Jae-yeol's research team from Sungkyunkwan University on the "Health Promotion and Menopausal Improvement Effects of Freshwater Seaweed Extract" study, revealing that freshwater seaweed showed various benefits including regulating menopausal hormone imbalances, improving bone and muscle health, and enhancing immune function. The research team conducted a study over one year, from 2025, on menopausal symptoms through ovary removal.
