Ukrainian farmers are experiencing a high demand for pumpkin crops due to its ease of growth and beneficial properties for soil. However, the lack of high-quality seeds, either due to poor quality from dishonest sellers or the high cost of imported hybrids that may not adjust well to Ukrainian climatic conditions, is hindering this growth. The Dnipropetrovsk Research Station is the sole institution in Ukraine dedicated to pumpkin breeding, developing new varieties that are better adapted to the country's conditions. They have introduced several popular varieties, such as 'Ukrainka' and 'Valok', and are cautious of potential cross-pollination with other crops. The researchers stress the importance of choosing Ukrainian selection varieties for successful cultivation in the country.
