Global: Seed potato export exceeds last year's level

Countries in Asia and Africa ensure good export results for seed potatoes from the 2022 harvest. Almost 119,000 tons of seed potatoes were shipped to Asia this season. That is already about 20,000 tons more than last season. Iraq (21,000 tons), Saudi Arabia (21,000 tons), Israel (15,000 tons), Syria (14,000 tons), Lebanon (13,000 tons) and Pakistan (12,000 tons) are the main Asian destinations. With the exception of Pakistan, these countries have so far all bought larger volumes than last season. Africa Africa barely imported seed potatoes between the end of February and the end of March, so the lead remains at approximately 15,000 tonnes compared to the 2021-2022 season. The country with by far the largest decrease is Algeria (89,000 tonnes). This is followed by Egypt (44,000 tons) and Morocco (29,000 tons).
