Sesame deal with China opens way for Brazilian bean exports

The recent phytosanitary agreement between Brazil and China, officially announced yesterday, marks an important step towards the export of Brazilian beans to the Chinese market. The necessary documentation to begin negotiations on the viability of exporting all varieties of beans produced in Brazil has already been submitted to the Chinese government, signaling the possibility of expanding the export agenda after sesame. Although the interest and need of the Chinese market are evident, formalizing an agreement of this type takes time. The process can take up to two years, due to the complex negotiations involving health standards, such as limits for the presence of weeds and residues of unauthorized agricultural pesticides. Until the beginning of this week, the Brazilian bean market had seen low commercial activity, with a reduced volume of negotiations.
