In a new episode of the geopolitical trade war, featuring South American countries and their productions, the United States Senate recently approved a measure that suspends the application of extra tariffs on products coming from Brazil, which had been pushed by the president of that country, Donald Tump, as a trade measure with foreign countries.
This measure represents a reconfiguration of the global meat trade, as Brazil had been increasing its sales to China, which increased its demand in recent times due to the holidays.
In September, Brazil exported 315 thousand tons, with 60% of that volume going to China and only 2.5% to the United States, according to its foreign trade statistics. Between January and September, it had exported 2.1 million tons, which represented a 16% increase in volume. The revenue totaled 11.4 billion dollars and grew by 37%.
