Snail farming is gaining traction in Russian agriculture, with the market projected to increase from 800 tons in 2024 to 1,000 tons in 2025, with half of the production coming from farms. Russia currently hosts around 200 snail farms, while the global market, led by Morocco, Ukraine, and Tunisia, reached 20.8 thousand tons in 2022. Russia imports snails primarily from France and Belarus, and domestic farms provide broodstock. The industry is less labor-intensive, and revenue is bolstered by agritourism, snail-based cosmetics, and restaurant sales. Popular species include Helix aspersa and Helix Pomatia, though misconceptions about their edibility persist. Demand is rising, particularly in Moscow, but remains limited elsewhere.
