Representatives from 79 countries are currently attending the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tuna (ICCAT) meeting in Egypt to negotiate fishing possibilities for tunas, including bluefin tuna, bonito, bigeye tuna, swordfish, and sharks such as the blue shark. Discussions are focused on bigeye tuna, with differences in positions regarding its distribution, particularly due to the interests of countries like Japan. Spain, which currently holds the rotating presidency of the EU, is advocating for improved management of bigeye tuna and a distribution that respects the interests of its fleet.
