Hungary consumes approximately 30 kg of pork per person annually, making it the second most popular meat after poultry. The pork industry has faced challenges such as African swine fever and coronavirus epidemic but is now stabilizing. The Ministry of Agriculture has provided development funds to pig farming enterprises, leading to greater efficiency and animal welfare. A consumption promotion campaign, along with an increase in import pressure, is expected to show a growth in the meat processing and preservation sector. The Hungarian Meat Industry Association expects the sector to end the year with a 5-6% volume increase in meat processing and preservation, but emphasizes the need for customers to support Hungarian meat and meat products.
