The Secretary General of Fisheries, Isabel Artime, and the Director General of Maritime Affairs, Fisheries and Aquaculture of France, Eric Banel, held a meeting this Friday in Madrid to coordinate positions ahead of the European Union (EU) Council of Ministers, which will decide in December on the modification of the multiannual plan for the Mediterranean and the total allowable catches (TAC) and quotas for 2026. Artime has insisted on the need for the European Commission to recognize the enormous effort made by the Mediterranean fishing sector and also take into account the good scientific prospects to ensure that political decisions are based on solid data. The meeting also allowed progress on other issues of great strategic importance, such as the start of negotiations on the financing of the Common Fisheries Policy in the Multiannual Financial Framework 2028-2034.
