Health and animal production authorities have detected a highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreak, H5N1 serotype, in poultry at a farm in the municipal district of Ahillones (Badajoz); municipal sources have confirmed it is a turkey farm. This is the first farm outbreak in the country in almost two and a half years. According to the Veterinary Health Alert Network (Rasve), consulted by Efeagro, the confirmation of this outbreak was this Friday, while two other H5N1 avian influenza outbreaks detected in wild birds in Extremadura are also recorded: one yesterday in Corte de Peleas (Badajoz) and the day before yesterday in Casar de Cáceres (Cáceres). The detection of this outbreak in poultry means that Spain temporarily loses its status as a country free of notifiable avian influenza with the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH) since 2023, when the last outbreak of this disease was detected on a farm.
