The Spanish Serrano Ham Consortium has reported a 6.6% decrease in exports of Spanish hams and cured shoulders in the first quarter of 2024, totaling 12,724.22 tons, valued at 155,754,124.53 euros, which marks a 9.7% increase in value compared to the same period in 2023. Despite the decrease in volume, the average price per kilo of ham rose by 17.46% to 12.24 euros. The European Union accounted for 66.72% of cured ham exports, while Third Countries saw an 11.97% increase, contributing to exponential growth. The main markets were France and Germany, with Mexico, Brazil, and Chile showing the most significant growth in Third Countries. Boneless formats made up 80.87% of exports, experiencing an increase in value, with the average price of these pieces rising in most markets.
