At the annual meeting of the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tuna (ICCAT), it was determined that the Spanish fishing fleet will have a quota of 22,361 tons of northern albacore catch for 2024, representing a 23% increase from 2023 due to improved stock of the species. The Total Allowable Catch (TAC) for albacore for 2024 to 2026 has also been increased to 47,251 tons, with the European Union responsible for 35,815 tons. The TAC for bigeye and tropical tunas will remain the same in 2023, but a meeting will be held in 2024 to review the TAC allocation mechanism for these species.
