The 2023/2024 agricultural campaign in Spain has seen a significant increase in the average price of greenhouse courgettes, with a 175.8% surge compared to the previous season. Despite selling their harvest at a lower average price of €0.62/kg, farmers saw a decrease in the gap between their prices and those consumers paid, which rose by 32.56% to €1.71/kg. This trend highlights a growing disconnect between agricultural prices and what consumers pay, and raises concerns about the distribution of added value and intermediate costs in the industry. Meanwhile, Morocco experienced a decrease in its courgette exports to the EU, while Spain has emerged as the leader in the market, seeing a significant increase in sales.
