The Christmas holidays and, in particular, New Year's Eve and its toasts to welcome the new year generate a peak in the consumption of sparkling wines; Spaniards have increased their spending on acquiring these wines by 3.5% in supermarkets, despite having reduced their purchase in volume by 2.7%. This is evident from the figures provided by the Circana consultancy to Efeagro, with data up to November and comparing the period from December 2024 to November 2025 with the previous twelve months. From the analysis by categories, the drop in the purchase of cava in terms of volume stands out, which decreased by as much as 4.1%. However, it remains by far the preferred sparkling wine in Spanish supermarkets, with 86% of the consumption share. It is followed by the category of "national sparkling wine", which barely accounts for 5% of the market, but which is growing both in volume (6.5%) and in value (8.2%).
