The government of Alagoas, Brazil, is purchasing approximately one million liters of milk per month from 2,500 family farmers through the Food Acquisition Program (PAA) at a price above the market average. The program, run through Leite do Coração, aims to strengthen production chains and generate income for family producers. In 2023, the program invested almost R$60 million, including resources from both federal and state governments, and paid R$3.55 for cow's milk and R$4.34 for goat's milk per liter, including an additional R$1.14 for processing.
