Strong potato exports in Germany in autumn

The Federal Statistical Office in Germany recently surprised with export data on fresh potatoes for October 2021, which are significantly out of the ordinary. Compared to October 2020, the volume within the EU has doubled, although a relatively large amount was exported in the previous year. In addition, there were a few third country exports, with which a total of 312,000 t of table and processing potatoes flowed out. Deliveries to the Netherlands had the greatest increase with +157% to 152,000 t, followed by +55% to 79,000 t for Belgium. Belgium has become a major destination since 2020. In the past, quantities of less than 10,000 t mostly went there. While so far the main focus has been on processing raw materials, larger quantities of table potatoes also flowed out than in 2020, namely to the Czech Republic, Poland, Romania, Bulgaria or Hungary.
