In the 2019/20 financial year, German commercial mills saw a significant increase in the production of spelled flour, reaching approximately 205,000 tons, an increase of 34,000 tons from the previous year. This production included 70 percent of type 630 spelled flour and 21 percent of whole grain spelled flour. The total grain grinding remained almost steady at 68 million tons, with a slight decrease in the number of mills to 186. This led to a slight increase in the average annual grinding per mill. The flour production also included a notable amount of spelled flour, totaling 251,000 tons.
