Sugarcane harvest 2023/24 in the Center-South of Brazil is estimated at 590 million tons by Datagro

The 2023/24 harvest (April-March) of sugarcane in the Center-South, the main sugarcane producing region in Brazil, should total 590 million tons – close to the record of previous years –, according to the 1st estimate by Datagro consultancy. The volume, if confirmed, will represent an increase of about 7% compared to the 2022/23 cycle in a more favorable climate. Considering the industrial yield at 141.20 kg ATR/tc, the total supply of ATR should grow 7.7% in the new season. "The perception, for now, is that the mills will seek to maximize sugar production in 23/24 especially in light of uncertainties about the oil market, whose prices have fallen again in reaction to forecasts of a slowdown, or even recession, of the global economy", says the consultancy in a note.
