Last week, the price of sunflower oil on the Rotterdam market rose by $20 to $1375/t FOB on October 17 ($1195/t - 17.10.2024), but the price of sunflower seed (oleic) on the French market remained unchanged in the first half of the month at EUR540/t CPT St Nazaire. Market participants comment that a correction is expected and there are already indications of a rise to EUR555-565/t CPT St Nazaire, which approaches the values from the same period in 2024 (EUR575-580/t - 17.10.24). European analysts cite "disappointment with sunflower yields in Ukraine" as the main reason for the price increase. Ten days ago, the London-based analytical agency ASAP Agri predicted that due to unfavorable agro-meteorological conditions in 2025, sunflower seed production in Ukraine could drop to its lowest level in 10 years – only 11.4 million tons, compared to 13.0 million tons produced in 2024 and 15.50 million tons in 2023/24 (according to FAS USDA data).
