The Tanzania Agricultural Development Bank (TADB) is planning to increase financing to support the grape industry, aiming to boost the value chain and enhance productivity. The bank's manager, Yodas Mwanakatwe, announced that TADB has already allocated 784m/- to the grape value chain, benefiting 186 producers directly and creating jobs for an additional hundred farmers. The government has identified grapes as a strategic cash crop, with potential production capacity of 150,000 tonnes per year, and is taking steps to improve its productivity and value addition. Despite challenges such as lack of processors and limited access to credit, there has been a significant increase in grape production in Tanzania, reaching 16,139 tonnes in 2018/19, with 11,552 tonnes sold in the same year.
