"Taean's Gaya-do, 'Six-Sided Garlic Seed Island,' excels in regional specialization"

(Taean=Yonhap News) Reporter Jeong Yun-deok = Taean County, South Chungcheong, announced on the 20th that Gagui Island, known as the "Garlic Seed Islet" in Geunheung-myeon, received the Grand Prize at the exemplary case announcement event for island region specialization projects, organized by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the Korea Island Promotion Corporation.

Despite the lack of proper processing facilities, the residents of Gagui Island have successfully researched and developed products using their specialty, garlic, including garlic gochujang, garlic doenjang, and garlic ganjang sauce.

Since the 14th, they have opened a sparkling store (pop-up store) near Seoul's Seongsu Station to showcase their products to consumers, receiving positive feedback.

Taean County and the residents plan to build drying facilities, storage rooms, and a local food center to promote the production and sales of processed products, and to lead in opening distribution channels to widely publicize the additional charm of Gagui Island.

A county official said, "Gagui Island is achieving innovative growth based on its unique island culture and ecological resources" and "We will strive to see Gagui Island's breakthrough development through continuous infrastructure expansion and strengthening the residents' capabilities."
