Representatives of the Taiwan Flour Mills Association and the U.S. Wheat Producers Association signed letters of intent for the purchase of 3.6 million tons of U.S. wheat by Taiwan for the period between 2026 and 2029 inclusive, reported the U.S. industry organization. They estimate that the purchased wheat will cost nearly $1.3 billion.
Additionally, the Taiwan association also signed letters of intent with the U.S. Soybean Export Council and the U.S. Grains and Bioproducts Council for the purchase of U.S. soybeans and corn.
During the 2024-2025 agricultural season, which ended in late June, Taiwan ranked 5th among importers of U.S. wheat with 949 thousand tons.
