In 2024, Afghanistan emerged as the largest importer of Russian flour, joining China and Turkmenistan as the top buyers. This increase in imports is attributed to Russia's diplomatic efforts to engage with the Taliban rulers in Afghanistan. Last year, Afghanistan's purchase of Russian flour doubled from the previous year, reaching a value of almost $80 million. Overall, Russia's exports of wheat and wheat-rye flour saw a 3% value increase and a 7% volume increase, totaling $300 million in 2023.
