Tanzania is aiming to produce at least 700,000 tonnes of sugar annually by 2025 by involving small-scale processors, as part of a plan announced by the Industry and Trade minister. The government will also design and manufacture sugarcane processing mini-plants, with the first units expected to be ready by June 2022. This initiative is a response to recent sugar shortages and price fluctuations in the country. However, the plan faces challenges, including the need for financial support for entrepreneurs and the prevention of deforestation. A survey by Conservation International revealed that Tanzania loses 2,300 square kilometres of land to destruction annually, threatening the country's forest cover.
