Onion farmers in Karatu district, Arusha region, are facing challenges due to a significant decrease in the producer price of their crop. The current price is Sh50,000 (€20.72) per bag, which is a fraction of the price they used to receive, which ranged from Sh180,000 to Sh200,000 (€74.59 to €82.88) a few months ago. This price drop is due to a reduction in buyers from Kenya, the primary market for Karatu's onions. The district agriculture office has highlighted that this decline in prices contrasts with the rainy season, when a large number of Kenyan buyers are present.
