Tanzania's cashew production increases by 40%, new season auction has started

CBT CEO Francis Alfred stated that over 45 companies have already registered to participate in the auctions, which are mainly held in the southern production areas of the country. The first auction will take place in the village of Mchichira in the Tandahimba district of the Mtwara Region, organized by the Tandahimba and Newala Cooperative Union. The Union's General Manager Mohamed Mwinguku said that this season is expected to procure 120,000 tons of cashews. It is reported that CBT originally planned to start the auction season on October 31, but it was postponed due to network technology issues. Alfred confirmed that the production for the 2025/26 season is expected to increase significantly to 700,000 tons, thanks to substantial government investment, especially in providing agricultural inputs and technical support to farmers.
