Turkey's Mussels Producers Association, with president Özerdem Maltaş, has reported a significant increase in the production of farmed mussels, now exceeding 8,000 tons annually, primarily for domestic consumption, particularly in the form of stuffed mussels. This production is concentrated in farms within the Marmara Sea, with plans to expand to 50,000 tons. The union aims to ensure healthy and efficient production and to improve the sector. Despite challenges such as water temperature changes and decreased tourism, which affect farm establishment, there is ongoing investment. The union emphasizes the importance of consumer health and the potential for increased exports with regular and controlled production, as the products meet European Union standards.
