The Regional Livestock Union of Jalisco (UGRJ) is advocating for the Federal Government to stop importing powdered milk to safeguard the income of local dairy producers. Adalberto Velasco, UGRJ's president, points out the difficulties local producers face in selling their products due to the preference for cheaper imported alternatives, leading to significant losses, including a case where a company stopped purchasing 120,000 liters of milk daily from local farmers. With the support of Jalisco's Secretary of Agriculture, Ana Lucía Camacho, the UGRJ is exploring solutions, including discussions with the Federal Ministry of Economy and plans to sell milk directly in the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area, despite the hurdles of additional costs for transportation and distribution.
