For the first 6 months of the year, the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency did not allow to the market of Bulgaria and the European Union 1546 tons of food imported from third countries that do not comply with the legislation, the press center of the ministry announced. For comparison, the stopped food at the borders in the whole of 2020 is 2,100 tons. Among the foods of non-animal origin, the most frequently non-compliant are the consignments of pepper, of which nearly 407 tons have been suspended due to laboratory-found excessive pesticide residues. Ingredients (foods intended for human consumption that contain products of both animal and plant origin, the processing of the primary product being an integral part of the production of the final product; eg instant soups) are the most frequently rejected goods at the border control over food of animal origin - 23.4 tons.
