The Union of Plant-Based Products (SPPRO) in Russia is planning to propose an official translation of the China Institute of Food Science and Technology (CIFST) voluntary standard for alternative plant-based meat products. This move aims to guide Russian plant-based producers in naming, labeling, packaging, transporting, and storing these products. The standard, which became mandatory in China on June 25, 2021, outlines strict requirements for these products to resemble animal meat in texture, taste, and appearance. The SPPRO believes that adhering to these standards could enhance the export potential of Russian plant-based meat products to the Chinese market, which is currently worth over $1 billion.
