The dairy market in Ukraine: why sour cream is getting more expensive, while Maasdam is getting cheaper

Despite the decrease in demand for dairy products in the domestic market of Ukraine and the fall in prices on export markets, most dairy goods in supermarkets continue to rise in price. According to analyst of the Milk Producers Association, Georgiy Kukhaleishvili, the reason for the increase is the rising costs of electricity, which affects the cost of production. In the last month, prices have decreased only on some products: pasteurized milk in film, drinking yogurt in bottles, fermented milk cheese, as well as Maasdam and Gouda cheeses of domestic production. Imported dairy products, especially cheeses, are in some cases cheaper than Ukrainian ones, making them attractive to buyers. This trend indicates a reduction in domestic demand for domestic cheeses.
