The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security in Malaysia is contemplating a review of chicken egg subsidies for grades A, B, and C, intending to halt them once supply stability is achieved. This move is akin to the successful discontinuation of chicken subsidies, which has saved the country RM100 million monthly. Proposals for this initiative are under review by the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living. The funds saved from ending these subsidies would be directed towards the development of other urgent agro-food sectors. Since February 2022, Malaysia has invested over RM3 billion in chicken and egg subsidies.
