The EU and Senegal reach an agreement to unblock the issuance of fishing licenses

The Spanish fleet that operates in Atlantic waters in Senegal will be able to fish again once the Minister of Fisheries and Maritime Economy of this African country, Alioun Ndoy, has today signed the licenses for the year 2022 that remained blocked. The activity of the community fleet that fishes in Senegal under the collaboration agreement for sustainable fishing between this country and the European Union had been paralyzed since 2021 due to the refusal of the Senegalese authorities to issue the corresponding licenses for 2022, despite have been processed and paid in a timely manner. A total of 15 Spanish vessels had processed and paid for the licences. The signing of the licenses has taken place after several weeks of intense negotiations between the Spanish administration and the European Commission, and between the latter and the Government of Senegal.
