The General Court of the European Union has ruled in favor of three environmental associations that appealed Brussels' refusal to review the community regulations that allowed the automatic extension of the approval of three active substances used in plant protection products, including glyphosate. The court based in Luxembourg concluded that this type of extension cannot be applied automatically or systematically. The European judges upheld the appeals of the environmental associations and annulled the decisions of the European Commission to deny the request for a review of the legislation (Implementing Regulations) by which the approval periods of three active substances used in plant protection products were extended again: boscalid, dimethoxistrobin, and glyphosate. The court recalled that, according to European legislation, to market plant protection products, it is necessary, among other things, that the active substance they contain is approved by the European Commission. ...
