The Parliament has recently passed legislation aimed at enhancing the transparency and quality of common breakfast products, including honey, juices, and jams. With a significant majority of 603 votes in favor, the new rules mandate the clear labeling of the country of origin for honey, introduce a traceability system to combat honey fraud, require the disclosure of sugar content in juices, and set a minimum fruit content for jams. This legislative move is designed to protect consumers and beekeepers by ensuring they are informed about the products they consume or produce, while also setting higher standards for product quality. The law is pending Council approval and will come into effect two years after it is enacted.
