The eve of Fruit Attraction will feature the first walnut and pecan congress in Spain

The 1st Congress of walnuts and pecans in Spain will be held on October 7, in conjunction with FRUIT ATTRACTION, to analyze the current situation and challenges of these crops both in Spain and internationally. The congress will have four presentations and a round table, with participants addressing various aspects such as the evolution of walnut and pecan cultivation, international challenges, and the future of the sectors. The round table will focus on the sustainability and future of the walnut and pecan sectors. Spain, with 12,713 hectares dedicated to these nuts, has seen a 53% increase in the past decade and is primarily located in Andalusia, Extremadura, Castilla-La Mancha, and Catalonia. However, the sector faces challenges such as competition from imported nuts, lack of institutional support, and phytosanitary issues. Walnuts and pecans are known for their numerous health benefits, including the presence of essential fatty acids, vitamins, minerals, and unsaturated fats, which contribute to brain performance, memory, disease prevention, and heart health.
