In the first four months of the 2024/25 season, Bulgaria's barley exports have significantly increased, reaching 0.47 million metric tons, marking a 56% rise from the previous season and the strongest export rate since 2018. This surge, which surpasses the six-year average by 171%, is due to a larger harvest and favorable weather conditions, resulting in a crop of over 1 million metric tons, the highest in a decade. While post-harvest exports are slowing, half of the exports have been directed to EU countries and the other half to non-EU countries, with Spain, Saudi Arabia, Portugal, Morocco, and Algeria being the top destinations.
