The General Administration of Customs has banned the import of Taiwanese pineapples to China for the next year, effectively stopping over 97% of Taiwan's pineapple exports. This ban has significantly impacted Taiwan, as China was its largest market. However, Taiwan has found new markets in Japan, which has become its largest buyer in 2021 and is expected to remain so in 2022. The total export volume of pineapples from Taiwan to Japan reached 1,832 tons in 2021, with projections of reaching 30,000 tons in 2022. Taiwan's pineapple cultivation area for 2022 remains unchanged from the previous year at 7,522 hectares, and it also successfully exported pineapples to Kuwait for the first time.
