The Council of Ministers has approved the draft Law on Control, Inspection, and Sanctions Regime for Maritime Fishing, promoted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food, with the aim of adapting Spanish regulations to the latest European modifications and reinforcing the fight against illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing. The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food, Luis Planas, has pointed out that the Spanish fishing fleet is a pioneer in this fight, which "defends and practices the highest level of sustainability and safety of all fishing activities carried out in the world" and that the fishing inspection is the only one in Europe that has had ISO 9001 certification since 2015.
