The Japanese Consumer Affairs Agency announced that one genetically modified corn and one genetically modified enzyme have passed food safety reviews and that one gene-edited tomato has been added to the list of gene-edited products.

Genetically modified corn MON95275, developed by Bayer (formerly Monsanto), contains the DvSnf7 gene from corn rootworm, the Mpp75Aa1.1 gene from Lysinibacillus sphaericus, and the vpb4Da2 gene from Bacillus thuringiensis, and has properties that resist Coleoptera insects. Currently, this genetically modified corn has been approved by the United States, the European Union for use in food and feed, by Australia, New Zealand, and Chinese Taiwan for use in food or food ingredients, and by Canada for use in food, feed, and planting.
