The Madagascar government is pushing for the construction of transparency in the lychee industry.

As an important pillar of the Mauritian economy, the lychee industry annually provides employment for over 100,000 people, with an average annual export of 20,000 tons of fresh fruit, generating nearly 30 million euros in foreign exchange, making it the fifth largest producer and the third largest exporter globally.

In 2023, the Mauritian lychee industry's export value reached 54.4 billion Mauritian rupees (approximately 12 million US dollars), a year-on-year increase of 18%, with an export volume of 17,000 tons (an increase of 7.4%). The European Union is the main export market, absorbing nearly 90% of the output.
